It's a hair-raising affair...

Weaves, afros, dreadlocks, mo-hawks, braids, haircuts, cornrows.....the list is endless. The perilous task of choosing a new hairstyle is once again my unenviable quarry this month. It's the same old ridiculously long-drawn out business of looking for something "new and fresh" but at the same time "very me" and "not high maintenance and long-lasting". Something that my friends will probably notice for one week and then forget about and my boyfriend will become attuned to once he realizes that the stray strands of curls being shed from my weave no longer find their way into the fabrics of his clothes.

Oh the joys of being African......the scourge of hair that loves to take on a life of its own is unique to us and only us. Only we can possibly feel the pain of a two hour styling session at 5 am in the morning, only to arrive at work or class a few hours later looking like we got swept up in a hurricane, thanks to the wind that makes our hair stand on end. Flat, lifeless, relaxed straggly strands, distasteful haircuts, disastrous weaves, and just plain shocking hairdos are all originally and proudly African.
